AN AUTUMN RETREAT IN THE HEART OF TUSCANY

  • A non-refundable deposit of 500 EURO is due upon booking. Once the deposit is paid, you will be guided to fill out a form and tell us a little more about yourself.

  • Michelle and Miriam met while teaching at a yoga festival hosted by a dear friend in the south of Sweden and bonded through a mutual love of curiosity, well-placed humour, seasonal wisdom, the body, well-being, serene locations and nourishing food.

For them essence lives within, as your true eternal nature — it’s a felt sense of coming home. We’ll explore this while being cocooned by the evergreen forest and warm autumn light that Tuscany has to offer. A place where slowing down and indulging in the moment feels natural.

Although we’ll be journeying together on retreat, this communal experience will also be a personal evolution of unveiling your true essence. As deep as we’ll go, know that levity and joy will also be potent medicines that we’ll tap into daily.

CREATED & GUIDED BY MICHELLE BAKER + MIRIAM MORGENSTERN

Ebbio is a site steeped in history, a restored thirteenth century farm that draws on the peace of the Tuscan atmosphere to create a beautifully tranquil spot for retreats and holidays.

The Retreat Space

  • Ebbio is a restored 13th century farm beautifully transformed in a tranquil spot for retreats and holidays. Nestled inside an evergreen forest, it sits on an extinct volcano that was sacred to the Etruscans, and overlooks the medieval walled town of Monteriggioni.

Ebbio’s family includes Sibilla, Francesca, Micol, Julian, Futula, Elkabira, the beloved Woofers, as well as geese, chickens, horses, donkeys, dogs, cats and plenty of butterflies.

The country ways of old Italy are preserved at Ebbio, where the dedicate themselves to the organic cultivation of their olive trees, vineyards, fruit, vegetables and herbs, which they then use in preparing their home-made vegetarian meals.

The unique décor of their ten bedrooms builds on this traditional heritage, with earthly colours and windows onto the rolling Tuscan hills.

    Read more about Ebbio here.

  • Upstairs, Ebbio offers 9 uniquely-furnished rooms (single, double and triple) and 5 bathrooms which cluster around a spacious communal area containing a traditional fireplace.

On the ground floor, they have a multi-purpose wooden floor activity room of 100m², which has an adjoining bathroom as well as a treatment room.

Much of Ebbio life can also be spent outdoors, often at the large communal tables under the shade of the pergolas, where we can eat meals prepared in their professional kitchen.

For a moment to oneself, there are plenty of chairs in the sun and hammocks in the shade, ideal for sunbathing, reading or star-gazing.

Their south-exposed patio is well suited for sunrise and sunset sessions as well as community gatherings.

  • Within easy reach of nearby cities, including Siena (10km) and Florence (45km), and a short walk from Monteriggioni, Ebbio is seated in the heart of the region of Tuscany, renowned for its fertile landscapes and artistic heritage. Flavours, smells, sounds and sights combine with history to create a holiday experience that is like stepping into another world.

    Roman Hot Springs

“Petriolo is a 45 minutes drive from Ebbio and has hot sulphur spring water with a crystal clear river.

There is also another hot spring location called Terme Di Rapolono, L' antica Querciolaia that has different kinds of pools and a 15 euros charge is required to enter. (45 minutes drive).”

    Nearby Beaches

“The National Park of Alberese is a fantastic location for long walks along the shore and swimming in the Mediterranean. The drive takes one and a half hours from Ebbio towards the south. Picnic available on request.”

    Monteriggioni (5 minutes drive)

    Siena (15 minutes drive)

Chianti Hills/Wine Tasting (30 minutes drive)

    San Gimignano (45 minutes drive)

    Volterra (One hour drive)

Calle Val D'elsa (15 Minutes drive)

There’s a magical quality to driving through the winding roads of the Tuscan countryside. The evocative landscape of rolling hills and sweeping vineyards studded with cypress trees and its cluster of medieval towns and bucolic farmhouses always feels like a celluloid moment. Yet while a visit to Tuscany is always a good idea, in our opinion, the fall is the very best time to visit—when the endless green vistas begin to ripple with varying shades of orange, red, and yellow foliage and the scent of the harvest perfumes the crisp autumnal air.

As the summer crowds clear out, locals return from their summer holidays with an energized sense of optimism. Wineries are busy turning their latest Sangiovese crop into Brunello and Chianti; truffle hunters and their dogs forage through the woods in search of their elusive treasures; the region’s procession of farmers assemble in the olive groves to begin production for the season’s olive oil.

Why Tuscany?

Reconnect with the eternal energy that moves through all living things.

The Retreat —Ingredients

  • It’s grown harder to label the style of yoga that Michelle teaches as it’s become a unique blend of her continuous studies in Katonah®, Yin and Restorative Yoga, Somatic Inquiry, Meditation, Taoism and the Breath. However, you can expect intentional, intuitive and bespoke sequences that leave you feeling informed, grounded and embodied.

You’ll find that Michelle’s love for the body, the breath, poetry and our seasonal inner nature is braided into all her sessions.

  • Pilates is an excellent workout for the core and overall body strength. Expect enhanced stability, mobility, stamina, flexibility and balance. All while promoting healthy joints and combining strengthening and stretching muscle groups on opposite sides of the body, to create balance and a greater postural alignment.

Miriam’s style of teaching is weaving classical pilates as a base with contemporary teachings like Garuda. The results are flows of exercises that challenge your mental strength as well as your physical abilities. All levels are welcome as this practice offers many adaptations within exercises.

In her organic and fluid classes you will explore movement patterns through play and curiosity. Finding pleasure within movement is at the very center. Miriam’s keen eye and experience with hands-on guidance gives you a unique and personalised experience. Awareness of the body, the breath, and movement for the fascia are essential in her classes.

  • Michelle often describes this specific style of Breathwork as couples therapy between you and you. It is a dynamic and active meditation technique that harnesses the intelligence of the breath, your breath, to help soften the analytical mind while supporting the body and the nervous system in an emotional and energetic release.

This practice can leave you feeling deeply grounded, less burdened, authentically you, and more at home within your body.

You can read more about breathwork on Michelle’s website here.

  • An introduction into the culture of seasonal, balanced and healthy cooking. We will be guided to mix organic ingredients, creating unique tasteful combinations inspired by traditional gastronomy.

  • Sound bath is a form of meditation that through sound and vibration promotes deep relaxation. By combining various musical instruments such as singing bowls and different chimes Miriam creates soundscapes. While you are resting and bathing in sounds, you can experience an expanded awareness, daydreaming, drifting in and out of states between being awake and sleeping.

The experience has been described as sounds and frequencies washing over your head, torso, arms, legs, and feet. A “sound bath” much like a water bath is something you relax your whole mind and body into, rather than something you just listen to. The frequencies and vibrations emitted from the instruments is known to ease our brain activity into a calm state. Sound waves have a pleasurable physical massage-like effect on the body as well.

  • Enjoy ‘sleep prep’ evenings where you’ll be guided through a 30-45 minute session to prepare for deep rest.

Techniques can include: yoga nidra, pranayama, nmeditation, reiki and singing bowls.

  • There will be plenty of free time to walk to a nearby village or watering holes or simply nap, read and relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Depending on the interest of the group and the amount of cars we have, we can also enjoy an afternoon excursion to a place farther away.

The food — local, organic & seasonal

Ebbio’s principle is that food is the ultimate source of health and happiness. They pride themselves on their use of fresh, locally sourced ingredients, primarily the produce they grow on their own land, which is certified organic.

With over twenty years of travel and living by the mantra that ‘food is medicine’, their meals are a highlight for their guests: always rich in nutrients, organic and vegetarian, their menu varies to complement what’s in season on their land. Mediterranean flavours meet new creations in their healthy, vibrant cooking. All meals are served family style.
